[Carpet] checkpoint at run-time request

Bela,
I just want to hear what the others think.
Regarding ManualTermination, I don't know for sure, but I suspect that
it would be easy to modify.
However, I would like to give it a different name...because in this case
we wouldn't be terminating anything...
