Not quite. In such cases (which I came across often enough) I reversed 
back to a version of IOBasic from before 1 Nov 2005 and ran the 
testsuites. If they passed I could safely substitute IOBasic's reduction 
output files with their equivalents produced by CarpetIOScalar. The 
procedure is awkward but works, I could "fix" a couple testsuites that way.

However, I wish we'd never have switched to using the new reduction 
flesh API in IOBasic in the first place. For more than a year now its 
reference implementation for PUGH is still incomplete. Carpet had good 
reasons to wait with its own implementation.
