Carpet is currently in a reasonably stable state. There are still many
missing features and more bugs than we would like, but it seems to be
usable in general. Documentation is somewhat lacking, especially of
features that were only recently introduced.

Recent work on Carpet included a more comfortable way of setting up
domains and describing boundaries. This is now best done through the
CoordBase interface. Reflection and Rotating symmetries and
periodicity work with Carpet.

An even more recent addition are physically sensible reduction
operations. Carpet now supports global reductions, i.e. reductions
over the whole domain, taking data from all refinement levels. As a
nice add-on, they also treat symmetry and outer boundaries correctly,
so that e.g. symmetry boundaries are not double-counted any more. This
feature is not yet well tested.

We are currently working on adding test suites for various subsystems to
make sure that the next steps forward are not actually backwards. We
also continue our effort to measure and improve Carpet's performance.

The next major step, planned for mid to end August, will be a split of
Carpet into a stable and a development version, as suggested in an
earlier mail. The stable version will start out as a copy of the
current state and then essentially see only bug fixes.
